Anja Heikkinen is a professor of adult
education in University of Jyväskylä. She has experience
from being a teacher of mathematics and sciences and
educational administrator before the career in the
university. Her main field of study is historical and
cultural research on relations between education and
work. She has a long experience from participating and
co-ordinating international research and academic
teaching on vocational, continuing and adult education,
also from a gender perspective. Anja Heikkinen is active
in various national and international associations and
networks related to vocational and adult education, e.g.
as the chair of Finnish Association for Adult Education,
chief editor of the journal Adult Education and board of
national graduate school Education, Knowledge and
CUlture, the co-ordinator of the VET and culture-network
and as a member of ESREA, ECER (VETNET and policy
analysis), ISCHE (gender network) networks.
